Easter Monday (Lunes de Pascua)
6 April 2026 · movable holiday — A sweet mona and bright holiday moments for all the children!
Easter Monday (Lunes de Pascua in Spanish) is the day after Catholic Easter Sunday. In Spain it is not a national holiday, but it is observed in several autonomous regions, including Catalonia, the Valencian Community and the Basque Country. Its best-known tradition, especially in Catalonia and the Valencian Community, is the mona de Pascua, a sweet cake that godparents give to their godchildren. It began as a sweet bread with boiled eggs; today it is often decorated with chocolate and figurines. Families and friends head outdoors to share the mona at picnics. The date depends on the phases of the Moon: Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon following the spring equinox (by the church's reckoning), so the holiday moves every year. In 2026 Easter Monday is on 6 April.
