Ascension Day
14 May 2026 · movable holiday — A quiet ray of light rises to the sky. A bright Ascension Day to you!
Ascension Day is a Christian feast commemorating the ascension of Jesus Christ into heaven, as described in the New Testament (the Acts of the Apostles). It falls on the fortieth day after Easter, counting Easter Sunday as the first, which makes it a Thursday, 39 days after Easter. Its date therefore changes every year. Easter itself follows both the Moon and the Sun: it is the first Sunday after the first ecclesiastical full moon falling on or after 21 March (the date the Church takes as the spring equinox). So this feast is also woven into the movement of the sky. In France, Ascension is an official public holiday. Many people take the Friday after it off, the so-called „bridge“ (le pont), to enjoy a long weekend. For believers the day often begins with a church service and is a time for family gatherings. Orthodox churches also celebrate the Ascension, but often on a different date, because they calculate Easter differently.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver ray made of pale glowing dots and fine lines, like a constellation, slowly rising upward between soft star-dotted clouds
