Palm Sunday

29 March 2026 · movable holiday — A quiet sprig of light – a peaceful, blessed Palm Sunday!

Palm Sunday, known in France as Dimanche des Rameaux (Sunday of the Branches), falls on the Sunday before Easter and opens Holy Week. Christians recall Jesus entering Jerusalem, welcomed by crowds waving palm branches. Palms are hard to find in France, so in church people have sprigs of boxwood, bay laurel or olive blessed. After the service, worshippers take them home, often placing them beside a cross or crucifix, and sometimes on family graves. They are usually kept until the following year. The date is movable: for Catholics, Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after the spring equinox (fixed by the Church at 21 March), and Palm Sunday comes one week earlier. So the feast is tied to the Moon and to spring. In 2026 the Catholic Palm Sunday is on 29 March. The sprig drifting across the Astronativa sky is a symbol of peace and hope.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver star figure made of light dots and thin lines, like a constellation, shaped as a gently drifting sprig of boxwood with small leaves
