World Tourism Day
27 September 2026 — Pack your dreams – the best views are above us too!
World Tourism Day is observed every year on 27 September. It was established by the World Tourism Organization (today UN Tourism) and first celebrated in 1980. The date marks 27 September 1970, when the organization's statutes were adopted, an important step toward its founding. Each year the day has a different theme highlighting the role of tourism in the economy, culture and the protection of nature. The celebration reminds us how travel brings people closer, creates jobs and helps preserve local traditions. Today many travellers also look for experiences under the open sky. Astrotourism takes stargazers to places with little light pollution (excess artificial light that hides the stars), where the Milky Way can be seen with the naked eye. In this way a journey can also become a meeting with the night sky. Every trip begins with a small suitcase and a big dose of curiosity.
