World Science Day for Peace and Development
10 November 2026 — A little flask and a whole solar system! Curiosity moves the world.
World Science Day for Peace and Development is observed every year on 10 November. It was proclaimed by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 2001 and first celebrated in 2002. The idea is to remind us that science serves society: it helps us solve shared problems, protect the planet and build dialogue between nations. Each year the day has its own theme, and schools, institutions and museums host lectures, exhibitions and open lessons. The link to the sky is natural: astronomy is one of the oldest sciences, and watching the stars and planets taught people to measure time, find their way and ask bold questions. Today, space missions show how scientists from many countries work together to expand shared knowledge.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver flask made of pale points and fine lines, like a constellation drifting across the sky
