World Food Day

16 October 2026 — Every grain is a little sun. Every grain is a little sun. Let's share our table!

World Food Day is observed every year on 16 October. The date marks the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) on 16 October 1945. The day was established by the FAO conference in 1979 and has been celebrated since 1981 in more than 150 countries. Its aim is to remind us that healthy, affordable food should be within everyone's reach, and to encourage care for farming, water and soil. Each year FAO chooses a new theme, and people around the world organize exhibitions, workshops, charity drives and shared meals. The link to the sky is an ancient one: for centuries farmers have watched the Sun and the stars to know when to sow and when to harvest. That is why our wheat ear grows from a star and its grains glow like little suns, a reminder that the bread on our table begins with light, soil and hard work.
