World Children’s Day

20 November 2026 — Every child has the right to dream – and a whole sky to draw on!

World Children’s Day is observed on 20 November under the auspices of the United Nations. The date marks the day the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. The observance itself was established in 1954 to promote mutual understanding among children around the world and to support their well-being. It is not the same as 1 June, when many countries celebrate International Children’s Day. On 20 November, schools, organisations and institutions hold meetings, drawing activities and campaigns, and buildings are sometimes lit up in blue. The day has no link to the lunar calendar or the solstices, but it is a lovely reason to look up at the stars. Any child can spot constellations, invent stories about them and dream freely. Our paper rocket carries exactly that message.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver star figure made of luminous dots and connected lines, like a constellation: a paper rocket folded from a child’s drawing, soaring across the sky and trailing loose, playful scribbles of starlight behind it
