Saint Valentine's Day

14 February 2026 — A thread of light between two stars – and a greeting just for you!

Saint Valentine's Day is celebrated on 14 February and is known in many countries as the day of lovers. Its name comes from an early Christian martyr called Valentine; historians believe that more than one saint of this name was venerated, and the details of their lives remain uncertain. The link between the day and romantic love is generally traced to the late Middle Ages, notably to a poetic tradition in which Geoffrey Chaucer wrote of birds choosing their mates on Saint Valentine's Day. Today people mark the day with cards, flowers, sweets and kind gestures. The custom of sending cards spread widely in the nineteenth century, when printing made them affordable. In Bulgaria, many people also celebrate Trifon Zarezan, the winegrowers' day, on 14 February (following the old calendar; the church feast of Saint Tryphon is on 1 February), so it is often a double celebration of love and of the winegrowers. The date is fixed in the calendar and does not depend on the phases of the Moon, but cold, clear February nights are a lovely time to look for stars together.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver dove made of luminous dots and fine lines, like a constellation drifting across the sky, carrying a small heart-shaped card; behind it a thin glowing thread of light stretches between two bright stars
