Saint Yves – Feast of Brittany
19 May 2026 — May the Breton wind carry the music and good cheer of Saint Yves!
Saint Yves (Yves Hélory de Kermartin) was born around 1253 in Brittany and died on 19 May 1303. A priest and church judge, he was known for defending the poor and the wronged, which is why he is honoured as the patron saint of lawyers and of Brittany. His feast is kept every year on 19 May. Around that date a pilgrimage, known as a pardon, takes place in the town of Tréguier, with a procession and shared prayers. Many take part in traditional Breton dress, and music and dance fill the region, including the binioù (a small Breton bagpipe) and the bombarde. In his honour, a symbol crosses the sky: little banners and a binioù carried by the wind, with warm wishes for all who celebrate.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver figure made of luminous dots and fine lines, like a constellation: a cluster of small fluttering banners and a little bagpipe (binioù) drifting across the night sky on the wind
