Week of Taste (Semaine du Goût)

12 October 2026 · movable holiday — Take a curious bite – taste is a whole adventure!

The Week of Taste (Semaine du Goût) is a French tradition that began in 1990 as a single “Day of Taste” and has run as a full week since 1992. Its idea is to awaken children's curiosity and attention to food. During the week, chefs often visit schools, sometimes joined by producers, to talk about ingredients. Children taste, smell and describe flavours – sweet, salty, sour and bitter – and learn to tell subtle differences apart. The event is held in mid-October, with dates announced each year, so the celebration is movable. Beyond classrooms, restaurants, bakeries and shops join in with tastings and open lessons. The aim is to protect the richness of local culinary traditions and encourage varied, mindful eating. It takes place in autumn, when harvests are rich, evenings grow longer and the stars appear earlier.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver constellation figure made of bright dots and fine lines: a tall chef's hat whose wings are a fork and a spoon, gently flapping as it glides across the night sky
