Fête de la Musique / World Music Day
21 June 2026 — Tra-la-la! Today every street is a stage – join the beat!
The Fête de la Musique (pronounced “fet duh la mew-zeek”), also called World Music Day, is held every year on 21 June. It began in France in 1982, when the first edition was organised on the initiative of the French Ministry of Culture. The idea is simple: bring music out of the concert halls and into the streets and squares, with free concerts open to everyone. Amateurs and professionals play in parks, in front of houses and in the open air, in every style from classical and folk to jazz and rock. Today the festival is celebrated in hundreds of cities around the world, including in Bulgaria. The date was chosen to fall close to the summer solstice in the Northern Hemisphere (20–22 June), the longest day of the year. That is why musicians often play late into the evening, until the first stars appear.
Flying across the sky: Three ethereal, bluish-silver constellation-like figures made of luminous dots and thin connecting lines: a violin, a bagpipe and a drum, drifting side by side across the night sky as if playing together
