Bread Festival (Saint Honoré)

16 May 2026 — Have a crisp, lovely day! May every breakfast come with fresh bread!

Saint Honoré (Honoré d'Amiens) was a bishop of Amiens who lived in the 6th century (died c. 600), and has long been honoured as the patron saint of bakers and pastry makers. His feast day in France falls on 16 May, and among bakers it has become an occasion to celebrate the craft. Around this date France holds its Bread Festival (Fête du Pain): bakeries open their doors, show how dough is kneaded and offer visitors fresh loaves. In Paris, the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré and the famous Saint-Honoré cake, a ring of choux pastry with cream and caramel, also bear his name. The festival has no link to a solstice or moon phase: its date is fixed in the calendar. In mid-May the nights are short and mild, and the spring constellations are easy to watch. So bread and stars share one table.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver star figure made of luminous dots and lines, like a constellation drifting across the sky: a long baguette with a tall baker's hat, waving one end like a conductor's baton, leaving a faint trail of tiny star-crumbs
