Easter Monday (Pasquetta)

6 April 2026 · movable holiday — Grab the blanket and basket – today is for an outing and good company!

Pasquetta, officially Lunedì dell’Angelo (Angel’s Monday), is the day after Catholic Easter and a public holiday in Italy. The name recalls the Gospel story of the angel who announced the resurrection. Over time the day became a popular spring celebration: Italians head out into the countryside for a trip or picnic, often with friends and family, and barbecues outdoors are common, as are Easter leftovers. The holiday moves each year because Easter is tied to the calendar and the Moon: Catholic Easter falls on the first Sunday after the first full Moon on or after 21 March (the church date of the spring equinox). So Pasquetta always lands in spring, between late March and late April, when days are longer than nights and the sky invites everyone outdoors. In 2026 it falls on 6 April.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver star figure made of luminous dots and fine lines, like a constellation drifting across the sky: a small family sitting on a flying checkered blanket, with a picnic basket traced in glimmering points
