Oktoberfest Blumenau

7 October 2026 · movable holiday — Come dance! My skirt is twirling and the sky sings along with the band!

Oktoberfest Blumenau is a large folk festival in the state of Santa Catarina, in southern Brazil. The town was founded in 1850 by German settlers, and the festival was created in the mid-1980s, inspired by the famous Oktoberfest in Munich. It takes place in October, usually for two to three weeks, with exact dates announced each year. The programme features brass bands, folk dances, traditional costumes, parades and the brewing customs inherited from the German immigrants. It is among the largest events of its kind in Brazil and draws many visitors from the country and abroad. October is a spring month in the Southern Hemisphere, so the sky over Blumenau shows constellations at different times and positions than in the north. The festival is not tied to any particular moon phase or solstice; its dates are set by the organisers.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver star figure made of bright dots and lines, like a constellation: a dancing woman in a folk dress, her wide skirt spinning in a swirl of glowing points as she glides across the night sky
