Isra and Mi'raj
15 January 2026 · movable holiday — May this bright night bring peace and calm to every home.
Mirach Kandili marks the night when Muslims remember Isra and Mi'raj – the Night Journey and Ascension of the Prophet Muhammad. According to tradition, in a single night he was carried from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca to the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, and from there ascended through the heavens. The observance falls on the night before the 27th of Rajab, the seventh month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Because the lunar year is shorter than the solar one, the date shifts each year by roughly 10–11 days against the Gregorian calendar. In Turkey it is one of the kandil nights, when minarets are lit with small lights (kandils). Believers spend the night in prayer, reading the Quran and reflection, exchange good wishes, and often share sweets. The link with the sky lies in the story of the ascension itself, while each month begins with the sighting of the new crescent Moon. В Астронатива го отбелязваме само със символ – кандило, което се издига по стълба от светлина.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver oil lamp (kandil) made of pale glowing dots and fine lines, like a constellation, slowly rising up a ladder of starlight across the night sky
