Istanbul Tulip Festival
1 April 2026 · movable holiday — The tulips are in bloom – take a star from my flower!
Every spring, usually in April, Istanbul is dressed in colour: streets, small gardens and parks burst into bloom with millions of tulips. The festival is organised by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, and the programme and exact dates are announced each year. One of the best-known venues is Emirgan Park on the European side of the city, where tulips are arranged in bright landscapes along the Bosphorus. The tulip has long been a symbol of Istanbul and is tied to the Ottoman “Tulip Era” (early 18th century, 1718–1730), when the flower was highly prized at court and among the elite. Today the festival draws residents and visitors for walks, photos and open-air events. The link to the sky lies in nature’s own rhythm: tulips bloom as days grow longer and the earth warms after the March equinox. That is why our giant tulip opens slowly across the sky and scatters colourful stars.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver tulip made of luminous dots and thin connecting lines, like a constellation, slowly drifting across the sky
