International Mother Earth Day
22 April 2026 — Hello! Hello! I am your home, the only one you have. Take care of me! Take care of me!
International Mother Earth Day is observed every year on 22 April. In 2009 the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution designating the day under this name, recognizing that the Earth and its ecosystems are our home and that “Mother Earth” is a common expression for the planet in a number of countries and regions. The day is closely linked to Earth Day, an environmental movement that began in the United States in 1970. Today people around the world plant trees, clean up natural places, and hold lessons and meetings about climate, water and the diversity of life. The connection to the sky is clear: Earth is the only planet we know that supports life, and photographs from space, such as the famous Blue Marble image from 1972, remind us how small and fragile it is. April is also springtime in the northern hemisphere, when nature awakens. That makes this day a good moment to look up at the stars and remember how precious our home is.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver figure made of luminous dots and fine lines, like a constellation: a small round planet cradled by the branches of a tree and wisps of cloud
