Greenery Day
4 May 2026 — Every little leaf is a star for the Earth. Thank you, nature!
Greenery Day (Midori no Hi) is a national holiday in Japan observed on 4 May. It is part of Golden Week, a cluster of public holidays at the end of April and the start of May. It was introduced in 1989 and was originally held on 29 April, the birthday of Emperor Hirohito (the Shōwa era), who loved plants and nature. In 2007, 29 April was renamed Shōwa Day and Greenery Day moved to 4 May. The day invites people to show gratitude to nature and enjoy plants. Many families go on outings to parks and gardens, and some botanical gardens and parks offer free admission. The holiday has no direct astronomical link, but it falls in the middle of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, when days are long and growth is in full swing.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver figure made of bright dots and fine lines, like a constellation: a tiny bonsai tree growing from a little pot-shaped boat, its branches drawn as glowing star-points
