Apple Day
21 October 2026 — Crunch! Old apple varieties still taste of home and orchards.
Apple Day is celebrated on 21 October in the United Kingdom. It was launched in 1990 by the charity Common Ground to celebrate apples, traditional orchards and the rich variety of local fruit. The idea was to show people how diverse the flavours, shapes and colours of apples can be, beyond the few varieties found in big supermarkets. On the day, orchards, farms, schools and markets host tastings, variety displays, juice pressing, baking and orchard walks. Visitors often learn how to graft and care for a young apple tree. The festival is truly autumnal: October is harvest time, when days are clearly shorter and nights longer, which makes it a good season for stargazing. The date is fixed and falls on the same day of the calendar every year.
