The holidays of the sky

Teachers' Day (China)

10 September 2026 — One brush, one star – and the lesson shines! Happy Teachers' Day!

In China, Teachers' Day is celebrated on 10 September. The date was set in 1985, when the country officially introduced the holiday to honour teachers. It differs from World Teachers' Day on 5 October, which is marked in many other countries.

Respect for teachers runs deep in Chinese culture, and the tradition is often linked to the sage Confucius, regarded as a model teacher. On this day students greet their teachers with cards, flowers and heartfelt words, and schools often hold small ceremonies and thank-you gatherings.

Calligraphy, the art of writing beautifully with a brush, is a fitting symbol of learning: every stroke takes patience and practice. The holiday follows the Gregorian calendar and is not tied to a solstice or a moon phase, but a September sky is a lovely invitation to look up and thank those who showed us the way to knowledge.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver figure made of luminous dots and fine lines, like a constellation drifting across the night sky: a robed teacher drawing a glowing star-character in the air with a long calligraphy brush, while a smaller student figure beside them offers a flower
