Labour Day
1 May 2026 — A well-earned rest – pack your suitcase and hit the road!
May 1 is marked as International Workers' Day. It traces back to the struggle for the eight-hour working day in the United States in the 1880s, with the date tied to the 1886 strikes in Chicago. In the People's Republic of China the day has been an official holiday since the state's founding in 1949. From 2000 to 2007 the official break was three days, and by swapping working days it was stretched into a full week known as the May Day “Golden Week”. In 2008 the holiday was shortened to a single day. Since 2020, swapped working days have usually created a five-day break, and from 2025 the official holiday has been two days. It remains one of the busiest travel periods in the country, as people visit relatives, tourist sites and parks. The day has no link to the lunar calendar, because it falls on a fixed date in the Gregorian calendar. Late spring is a pleasant time for stargazing, with warmer evenings that invite a walk under the sky.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver figure made of luminous dots and fine connecting lines, like a constellation moving across the sky: a cheerful craftsman wearing a hard hat and carrying a small travel suitcase, striding along with a light, happy step
