Labour Day (Brazil)
1 May 2026 — Happy holiday to everyone who builds! A bouquet for you from the sky!
May 1 is an official national holiday in Brazil, known as Dia do Trabalhador (Workers' Day). It is tied to the international Labour Day, which commemorates the struggle of workers for better conditions and the eight-hour working day, and traces back to events in Chicago in 1886. In Brazil it is a day off, and many cities host marches, concerts and public events, often with trade unions taking part. The holiday invites reflection on workers' rights, wages and working conditions. For many people it is also simply a day of rest with family and friends. In the northern hemisphere May 1 falls in mid-spring, while in Brazil, which lies in the southern hemisphere, it is mid-autumn at this time. There is no specific astronomical event linked to the day, but the Southern Cross and Scorpius are visible in the southern evening sky at this time.
