International Day of Sport for Development and Peace
6 April 2026 — I run along a path of stars – join me, sport brings people together!
The International Day of Sport for Development and Peace is observed every year on 6 April. The UN General Assembly established it by a resolution in 2013. The date recalls the opening of the first modern Olympic Games in Athens on 6 April 1896 (Gregorian calendar). The idea is to use sport as a way of bringing people and communities together, and of supporting health, education, gender equality and inclusion. Schools, sports clubs, organisations and institutions in many countries mark the day with competitions, open training sessions and gatherings. The date is fixed, and in the Northern Hemisphere it falls shortly after the spring equinox, when days are growing longer and more people head outdoors. Our torch-bearing runner nods to the Olympic tradition of the flame and invites everyone to move together.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver runner made of luminous dots and fine connecting lines, like a constellation in motion, striding across the night sky with a small glowing torch held high
