Family Day

1 March 2026 · movable holiday — A kite, some fruit and everyone together – the best sky is a family sky!

Family Day (in Spanish, Día de la Familia) is marked in Mexico on the first Sunday of March. The idea is simple: to set aside time for the people closest to us, with a shared meal, a walk in the park, games and conversation. That is why many families head out for a picnic, fly kites or just gather around the table. It is more of a social and family occasion than a formal ceremony, and its date moves each year because it follows the rule “first Sunday of March”. In 2026 that is 1 March. The beginning of March is also the start of meteorological spring in the Northern Hemisphere (the period from 1 March to 31 May), while astronomical spring arrives around 20 March with the spring equinox. So this family day falls at a time when the days are getting longer and it is increasingly pleasant to be outdoors under an open sky.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver family figure made of luminous dots and thin lines, like a constellation drifting across the sky: two adults and two children walking hand in hand, one child holding the string of a small kite, the other carrying a basket of fruit
