Reformation Day

31 October 2026 — A light for the word and for conscience – warm wishes to all who observe this day.

Reformation Day is observed on 31 October in memory of 1517, when the monk and theology professor Martin Luther sent his 95 Theses against the sale of indulgences (payments believed to reduce the temporal punishment for sin) to Albrecht of Brandenburg, Archbishop of Mainz. According to tradition, he also nailed them to the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg that day, though historians debate whether this actually happened. These events launched the Reformation and the Protestant churches. In Germany the day is a public holiday in Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia, Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, Lower Saxony and Bremen. People attend services and concerts, and often sing the hymn “Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott”. Luther's emblem is the Luther Rose: a white rose with a heart and cross on a blue field. The date is fixed and falls on 31 October every year, in the heart of autumn.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver figure made of luminous dots and fine lines, like a constellation drifting across the night sky: a five-petalled rose with a small heart at its center, glowing softly
