United Nations Day
24 October 2026 — All the stars in one circle – the sky shines brighter together!
United Nations Day is marked on 24 October. The date was chosen because the UN Charter entered into force on 24 October 1945, after it was ratified by China, France, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States and a majority of the other signatories. The organization was founded after the Second World War to maintain peace, protect human rights and encourage cooperation between nations. The day has been observed since 1948, and in 1971 the General Assembly recommended that member states treat it as a public holiday. Typical activities include meetings, exhibitions, concerts and school lessons about the world and our shared concerns. The olive branch has long been a symbol of peace, so our character is a wreath of stars arranged in a circle rather than the official emblem. The day is not tied to any particular celestial event, but the long evenings of October are a lovely time to look up at a sky that belongs to everyone.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver figure made of luminous dots and thin lines, like a constellation: a circular olive-branch wreath whose leaves are small stars, drifting slowly across the night sky
