Mother's Day in Spain (Día de la Madre)
3 May 2026 · movable holiday — Every mother deserves a whole night of stars and flowers!
In Spain, Mother's Day (Día de la Madre) is celebrated on the first Sunday of May. It has not always been so: the holiday was originally held on 8 December, the feast of the Immaculate Conception, and since 1965 it has been celebrated on the first Sunday of May. Today children and grandchildren give their mothers flowers, often carnations, small presents and handmade cards. Many families gather for a shared lunch or dinner, and in some homes mom simply does not cook that day. The holiday follows a calendar rule rather than a fixed date: it always falls on the first Sunday of the month. In 2026 that is 3 May. So spring, with its long, bright days, becomes a time to say thank you to mothers.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver star figure made of light dots and thin lines, like a constellation drifting across the sky: a bouquet of carnations tied with a ribbon, with a small glowing heart floating above it
