Mother's Day

31 May 2026 · movable holiday — A bouquet of stars for all mothers, with lots of little hearts on the way!

Mother's Day in France (Fête des Mères) is celebrated on the last Sunday of May. If that day coincides with Pentecost, the celebration moves to the first Sunday of June. The date was set by law in 1950. The date changes every year, because the last Sunday of May is never the same. Sometimes Pentecost also plays a part: it falls seven weeks after Easter, and Easter is set by the spring equinox and the full moon. So in some years Mother's Day, too, depends on the sky's calendar. By tradition, children make handmade gifts at school, such as drawings, cards and small crafts, and often learn a poem for their mother. Families gather for lunch, and flowers and sweet treats are the most typical presents. That is why a bouquet of wildflowers, scattering little hearts, travels across the starry sky.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver constellation shaped like a bouquet of wildflowers, drawn from pale glowing dots and fine lines, drifting across the night sky
