Mother's Day (Brazil)

10 May 2026 · movable holiday — A bouquet of stars for every mum – happy Mother's Day!

In Brazil, Mother's Day (Dia das Mães) is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. According to available accounts, the first large celebration in the country was held in Porto Alegre in 1918, inspired by the American custom, and in 1932 President Getúlio Vargas made it an official date in the national calendar by decree. Today it is one of the most beloved family occasions: relatives gather for a Sunday lunch, children make cards and give flowers, and for shops it is the second-biggest sales occasion of the year after Christmas. The date moves each year because it always falls on a Sunday; it is not tied to any astronomical event. Still, May brings autumn to the southern hemisphere, with clear skies and the Southern Cross riding high. So our comet-bouquet crosses the heavens as a gift to all mothers, grandmothers and women who care for their loved ones.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver figure made of light points and fine lines, like a constellation: a bouquet of tropical flowers tied with a ribbon, drifting across the sky like a comet
