Children's Day (India)

14 November 2026 — The rose flies like a kite – run after it, kids!

Every year on 14 November, India celebrates Children's Day. The date is the birthday of Jawaharlal Nehru (born 1889), the first prime minister of independent India. He was known for his affection for children, who called him „Chacha Nehru“ (Hindi for „Uncle Nehru“). In popular memory he often wore a red rose on his jacket, which is why the rose is linked with him. Until 1964, Children's Day in India was marked on a different date; after Nehru died that year, it was moved to his birthday. Schools hold songs, dances, contests, drawing and performances, and there are often events to benefit children. The day follows the Gregorian calendar, so it does not move with the phases of the Moon. In November, the autumn constellations such as Andromeda and Pegasus are high in the evening sky.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver figure made of luminous dots and fine lines, like a constellation: a rose with a star-bright bloom, drifting across the sky on a thin line like a kite
