Bossa Nova Day

25 January 2026 — Hush, the wave is singing… let the bossa nova rhythm carry you!

Bossa nova is a Brazilian music style whose name can be loosely translated as „new trend“ or „new flair“. It was born in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1950s. It blends the gentle rhythm of samba with soft jazz harmonies and a quiet, almost whispered voice. Among its creators are the composer Antonio Carlos Jobim, the poet Vinicius de Moraes and the guitarist and singer João Gilberto. In Brazil, 25 January is National Bossa Nova Day, established by law in 2009. The date honours Jobim, who was born on this day in 1927 in Rio de Janeiro. Songs such as „Garota de Ipanema“ (The Girl from Ipanema) carried the style around the world. In Brazil the day is an occasion for concerts and events celebrating bossa nova and the music of Jobim. The day has no astronomical connection, but the easy sway of bossa nova feels like a wave beneath the stars.

Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver guitar made of luminous dots and fine lines, like a constellation, gliding across the night sky as if it were a little boat
