Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe
12 December 2026 — Peace and light to all who are Peace and light to all who are on their way to the Basilica of Guadalupe today..
Every year on 12 December, Mexico remembers Our Lady of Guadalupe, the country's most venerated religious feast. According to Catholic tradition, in December 1531 on the hill of Tepeyac, near today's Mexico City, the Virgin Mary appeared to a peasant named Juan Diego and asked for a church to be built. As a sign, he brought roses to the bishop, and an image appeared on his cloak (the tilma). That image is kept in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, one of the most visited Catholic shrines in the world. Around the feast, millions of pilgrims arrive, many on foot from far away, bringing flowers, especially roses, and singing „Las Mañanitas“ (a traditional morning greeting song). The date is fixed and does not follow a lunar calendar. The long December nights are often clear, and stars are part of the image's iconography. Here we show only a symbol: roses and stars.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver figure made of luminous dots and thin lines, like a constellation drifting across the sky: a bouquet of roses outlined in light, surrounded by small golden-tinted stars, with a soft blue-green glow behind it
