Father's Day
21 June 2026 · movable holiday — Hold on tight, little boy – Dad is pulling you toward the stars! – Dad is pulling you toward the stars!
Father's Day in the United States is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. The idea came from Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington, who wanted to honor her father, a widower who raised six children on his own. The first celebration took place in 1910. The custom gradually spread across the country, and in 1972 it became an official permanent national observance (not a federal day off). Today children give cards to their fathers, share meals, and go on walks or fishing trips, and children often give small handmade gifts. The holiday is movable because it is tied to a weekday rather than a fixed date. It often falls close to the June solstice (the moment of the longest day in the northern hemisphere), so evenings are long and bright, ideal for outdoor outings and for spotting the first summer stars together with Dad.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver figure made of luminous dots and fine connecting lines, like a constellation drifting across the sky: a flying necktie pulling a kite, and on the kite a tiny star-boy waving
