Father's Day (Turkey)
21 June 2026 · movable holiday — A kite flies higher when you hold it together with Dad!
Babalar Günü is Father's Day in Turkey, observed on the third Sunday of June. The modern holiday began in the United States in the early twentieth century, when Sonora Smart Dodd proposed honouring her own father. It later became established in Turkey and is now a popular family occasion. People visit their fathers, give gifts such as scarves, shirts, books or watches, and share a meal together. Many families enjoy a breakfast outdoors or a walk along the Bosphorus. Children draw cards and write warm words. The day is secular and has no religious ritual. Its date is movable and follows a calendar rule rather than an astronomical event. It does, however, fall close to the June solstice, when the northern hemisphere has its longest days, leaving plenty of daylight for walks, games and kite flying.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver star figure made of bright dots and connecting lines, like a constellation moving across the sky: a tall father and a small boy holding the string of a diamond-shaped kite together
