Father's Day
21 June 2026 · movable holiday — Happy Father's Day to all dads! This tie is for you!
Father's Day in France (Fête des Pères) is celebrated on the third Sunday of June. As a nationwide celebration it took hold later than Mother's Day: in 1950 a lighter manufacturer used an advertising slogan about a gift for dad, and the day was officially recognised in 1952. The idea came from the United States, where a similar celebration has existed since the early 20th century. Today it is a quiet family occasion in France. Children draw cards, make small handmade presents and give them to their fathers, and families often gather for a meal. The date follows the calendar rather than the sky, but the third Sunday of June falls very close to the summer solstice (around 21 June), when daylight is longest in the northern hemisphere. So in one of the brightest weeks of the year, the sky seems to join the family tribute to fathers.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver necktie made of luminous dots and fine lines, like a constellation, fluttering and trailing across the night sky like the tail of a kite
