Seville April Fair (Feria de Abril)
21 April 2026 · movable holiday — The lanterns are lit – The lanterns are lit – let's dance a sevillana under the stars!
The Seville April Fair (Feria de Abril) is the city's best-known spring festival. It began in 1847 as a livestock market and has grown into a celebration of music, dance and hospitality. A temporary “town” of hundreds of striped tents, called casetas, rises in a dedicated fairground, decorated with thousands of paper lanterns. Women wear flamboyant flounced dresses, and men wear short jackets or suits. People dance sevillanas (a traditional Andalusian folk dance), drink sherry and manzanilla (wines of the region; manzanilla is a light dry sherry) and share tapas. The fair is usually held about two weeks after Easter, so its date follows the church calendar, which depends on the spring equinox and the full moon. It opens with the traditional “fish dinner” and the lighting of the lanterns, and closes with fireworks at midnight on its final night.
