Ambedkar Jayanti
14 April 2026 — Every letter can open a door to equality.
Ambedkar Jayanti is observed every year on 14 April to mark the birthday of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, born in 1891. A jurist, economist and social reformer, he chaired the drafting committee of the Constitution of India and became independent India's first Law Minister. All his life he campaigned against caste discrimination and for the rights of the so-called untouchables (Dalits). In 1956 he embraced Buddhism. On this day people lay flowers at his statues, especially at Deekshabhoomi in Nagpur, where he embraced Buddhism and at Parliament in New Delhi, and take part in processions, readings and community events. It is an official public holiday in India. Because it follows the Gregorian calendar, it falls on a fixed date and does not depend on the phases of the Moon. Our glowing book carries his words across the sky, a reminder that knowledge and law can make people equal.
Flying across the sky: An ethereal, bluish-silver figure made of luminous dots and fine connecting lines, like a constellation: an open book whose pages release glowing letters that drift upward and scatter into the night sky, gently twinkling as they travel
